“I’m asking you all to… have a loving thought in your mind for them both over the coming weeks that they will have a positive outcome.”

The above was part of a message I read regarding a lady who was due for an operation and husband was worried and the friend who wrote this asked people among other things was to have positive thoughts towards the situation. I understand the sentiment, if enough of us get together and think positive then the thoughts will go out from us and generate  change. The problem? Is in thinking that our “positive thinking” has the power to change her condition. That we somehow have the power within each of us to unleash healing power towards the person by our thinking. That if we all unite with “positive thinking” it is somehow transferred  across the miles, oceans even, and she directly receives it and is Miraculously healed! Because we falsely believe we are “God’s” with the Power within us to unleash as we please and that what we think will come into being because…we have positive thoughts. Falsely believing our thoughts are powerful because we are powerful!

We make ourselves out to be the “Almighty,” with supernatural power to change things, such as healing in another person’s life, to falsely believe that through your positive thinking can and is the Deliverer and Savior. It may seem a “lovely” thought but it is error. It is a false belief system that turns to self and not to the Savior, Jesus Christ as sufficient. It is like the people of Babylon thinking they were good enough, worthy enough to get to heaven through their own way, their own self effort and excluding God, reckoning He was needed or necessary, as they were self sufficient to bring about a way to get to heaven without Him! It is the same old lie, that we can bypass God and implement our own belief system as sufficient. It is to make yourself out to be Deity- God! It is tragic, it is deceptive, it is demonic in its origin. As when the serpent tempted Eve to disobey God appealing to her, that  if she took his advice, she would be like God. “… For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, …”-{Genesis 3:5}. It’s a “god” complex! Indeed, satan’s sin of pride is exposed in Isaiah 14:13-14,-““But you said in your heart,
‘I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne above the stars of God,
And I will sit on the mount of assembly
In the recesses of the north.
14 ‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.’ “

Note the amount of times “I” is mentioned such as, “I will ascent to Heaven, I will raise my throne above the stars of God… I will make myself lie the Most High…” Not content to take his position in God’s creation but rebelling and seeking to overthrow God, somehow in the spiritual insanity, we too as humans who are sinners, rebellious and desiring to overthrow God and live in rebellion and in defiance of Him and not realizing His mercy that the reason our heart takes one more beat is His kindness and patience not desiring we perish but come to repentance- do a u-turn from seeking to self govern and submit to His governing of us, who is our Maker and sent His Son to rescue us from the penalty of sin and desiring we know Him personally in a loving relationship, and be rightly restored with Him! We take our “I” and say”I turn from living my life on my terms for my sake, and I turn to God and I submit myself and my sin to Jesus Christ as LORD to rule over me and Savior to rescue and deliver me from sin’s penalty and power. I surrender all!” And the result as Paul said,” I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”-{Gal 2:20}. “I bow my life to God! 

All people need the Holy Spirit to open our understanding of our sin and need of Jesus Christ to meet us and save us from idolatry, which is placing anything or anyone before God and worshiping that instead of God. In this case it is the worship of “self!” We need God to rescue us from sin, satan’s dominion and the lies of this world system that say we can live without God, we need to  have us save us from sin and.. to Himself, so we can be right with God.

The lies of embracing Positive thinking as absolute authority in both the spiritual and physical realm is that you falsely believe that you have the POWER to think you can change a person’s physical condition, is self deception, demonic deception, it is “playing God.” People may mean well, but belief that sending “positive thoughts” towards someone and believing you have the power to bring about change is to play “God!” Why “play God,” when through repentance towards God, turning to Him and away from self rule and sin,and placing your faith entirely in the work of the LORD Jesus you can  be justified, declared right with God, sin has been paid for in full through the death of the LORD Jesus Christ and He was raised on the third day so you could be declared in right standing with God, because the LORD Jesus took your place and bore the penalty for your sin! Amazing grace, amazing love, amazing Savior is Jesus our LORD!

Through faith in the LORD Jesus you have permanent eternal access to God, standing in the favor, grace of God -{Read Romans 5:1-2}…where you can speak to Him who alone has the supreme power to bring about change if it so pleases Him! Jesus says, “…All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth…Power belongs to God.” – {Read Matt 28;18; Psalm 62:11}

John wrote, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.”-{1 John 5:13-15}.

Look at the assurance,

You can know you have eternal life.

You can know if you ask according to His will that He hears you and that He will answer prayers that are according to His will because He has the power to do so!

SO, INSTEAD OF DEALING IN DECEPTION, NO MATTER HOW “GOOD, NICE” IT MAY SOUND IN SENDING “POSITIVE THOUGHTS” which have no power to save a soul or cause something to happen where as The LORD Jesus who has all authority in Heaven and on earth, has the ability, loving heart, wisdom, if it so pleases Him to specifically answer your prayers- and all of those who pray in alignment with His Will… He does answer!

Instead of speaking to the air, speak to the One who made and sustains the air!

We must have compassion upon people and not speak down or think down for that is just self- righteousness and forgetting what God has done for us, the mercy He has upon us. We have no reason to boast except in the cross of Christ and His mercy and if anything it should produce humility and compassion in us and through us for those outside of the LORD Jesus. For the “Positive thinking,” they have their own religion, their own way of thinking, and it is final, authoritative in their mind, but it is bankrupt, deceptive, powerless to benefit a life for eternal salvation, and though it may sound good, it lacks…TRUTH, which God’s Word supplies! 

Exchange the Lie for Truth and THINK on That…

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. THEN you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”-{Romans 12:2 NLT}

“If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”-{John 8:31-32}

“ Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”-{Matt 4:4}

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom,…”-{Colossians 3:16}

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”-{Philippians 4:8}.
