The Psalmist testifies to God’s Word in his affliction. His enemies lied against him, -{v 78,86}; persecuted him-{v84};oppressed him; -{v 121,  134};And had “many adverseries”- { v157}; He was “exceedingly afflicted,”- {v 107}. And yet we see his constant turning to the LORD and trusting in His Word and…

He testifies to it and that in and from it, he finds…

  • Comfort.- “This is my comfort in my misery, That Your word has revived me – v 50
  • Hope– “Remember the word to Your servant, In which You have made me hope.”- v 49
  • Good– “It is good for me that I was afflicted, So that I may learn Your statutes.”- (mature perspective) v 71
  • Concern for Others – “May those who fear You see me and be glad, Because I wait for Your word.” – v 74
  • Wisdom – “Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies, For they are ever mine.”- v 98
  • Insight – “I have more insight than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation.” -v99
  • Understanding– “I understand more than those who are old Because I have complied with Your precepts.”-v100, 104
  • Restraint –“ I have restrained my feet from every evil way, So that I may keep Your Word.”- v 101,133, 9
  • Guidance– “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”- v 105
  • Revive– “I am exceedingly afflicted; Revive me,{“Renew…quicken..keep me alive”} Lord, according to Your Word.”- v 107

The Psalmist’s Relationship with the Word of God…

  • Delighted in God’s Word – “ If Your Law had not been my delight, Then I would have perished in my misery.” -v 92, 70
  • Loved God’s Word – “How love Your Law! It is my meditation all the day.”- v 97, 47-48, 136
  • Meditated on God’s Word – “…It is my meditation all the day.”- v97, 48.Psalm 1:2.
  • Thankful for God’s Word – “I rise at midnight to thank You for Your righteous judgments.”- v 62
  • Obedient to God’s Word – ” Therefore I love Your commandments Above gold, yes, above pure gold. Therefore I carefully follow all Your precepts concerning everything, I hate every false way.“- v 127,128

His relationship with God through His Word in times of affliction and suffering and how it ministered to him and gave him a true view of life. In the midst of afflictions, he kept Relying heavily on the Word of God Relating all to the God whose Word it was and is!

  • In times of trouble what we lean in and on for support reveals a lot about us to ourselves.
  • What is my foundation?
  • Build on the Word and when affliction comes you will find God meeting you with and through His Word with such as comfort, perspective, delight, love, wisdom, insight, understanding a restraint against sin!
  • Take time to read each Scripture mentioned above and allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you as He did the Psalmist to strengthen your faith.

Make the Word of God your FOUNDATION and FELLOWSHIP with the God of the Word will be the FRUIT, and … concern for Him, and others.

  • And Testimony to Him. As the above verses teach,
  • Psalm 66:16 captures in a verse! “Come and hear, all who fear God, And I will tell of what He has done for my soul.”

Thought To Encourage;

Keep RELYING on the Word of God and RELATING All to God whose Word it is, and RECEIVING from Him Through His Word all and more that the Psalmist did as listed above!!

God bless
