“For I am confident of this very thing that HE who began a good work IN YOU will PERFECT it until the Day of Christ Jesus.”-( Phil 1:6).
“CONFIDENT.” To come to a settled persuasion about some truth and to be persuaded, convinced. The perfect tense means Paul has come to the settled persuasion, and conviction and remained confident in God’s desire and ability to continue His work in them, changing and conforming them to the image of Christ. He lived in a continually settled persuasion, convinced of this truth!
“THAT“- here points to what he rests his hope upon and it is on the LORD,…
“HE” his reliance, confidence is in the LORD who began a good work. He initiated, He sustains and it is a “Good work” He began in them approximately ten years earlier in their lives when He began to save them, beginning with Lydia. -{Read Acts 16}.
“PERFECT” means to “Fully Complete”…{epiteleo from epi = intensify the meaning of following verb +teleo = make an end and bring something to its destined goal). He will bring our salvation in glorification to its ultimate conclusion. Salvation is of The Lord. So often the evil one tempts us to look to our own performance and away from the LORD Jesus. But faith looks to Jesus the Author and Perfecter of our faith, and rests in His sufficiency. His finished work. -{Read Heb 12:2}
He will not fail in completing your salvation in getting you, me, and all who put their faith entirely and exclusively in Him, safely all the way Home to be with Him,.., glorified.., and believers will be revealed with Him in glory!-(Read Col 3:4). Paul had no doubts about their salvation or eternal security because GOD had started it and what He starts He finishes! There is NO POSSIBILITY of Him failing or partially completing His work in you, or walking away! No chance! And so we have the rest of faith in our faithful Savior! Resting in His Person, promises and work! Spurgeon said, “The life of A Christian is a series of miracles.” We are being changed, “sanctified.”
- B. Meyer illustrates this – We go into the artist’s studio and find there unfinished pictures covering large canvases, and suggesting great designs, but which have been left, either because the genius was not competent to complete the work, or because paralysis laid the hand low in death; but as we go into God’s great workshop we find nothing that bears the mark of haste or insufficiency of power to finish, and we are sure that the work which His grace has begun, the arm of His strength will complete. “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. ” -{1 Cor 1:18}. ” “For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.“-{John 17:19}.
When Jesus saves, delivers from the danger of the penalty of sin, the wrath of God, and the bondage of satan, to be liberated and be brought into a right relationship with God, standing fully accepted and in Divine favor for all eternity and “accepted in the Beloved.”Our “acceptance,” with God is in The Son of His Love, the LORD Jesus. -{Read Rom 5:2; Eph 1:6}. He saves completely and eternally. He never begins a work and fails to finish it! He initiated your salvation. He justified -{Rom 5:1};… He sanctifies… He glorifies! He finishes what He starts. Take heart in Him, your Savior, who saves, rescues, delivers, preserves keeps completely!
What shouting ground this is!
He finishes what He starts!!
Next stop … Glory …to be with Him, for all whom He begins the work of salvation –“IN You.”
Rest in Him. Rejoice in His promise. Reach out and share this good verse of promise with someone else!
Jesus saves completely!
PRAISE HIM!
God bless
Aidan.
