Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!  For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.“-{Romans 5:9-11}

Paul having shown why all people are lost, under the wrath of God in chapters 1-3 In chapter 5 He shows how through faith in Christ a person’s spiritual position changes and he assures the believers that their salvation is secure for it is “Kept by the power of God.”-{1 Peter 1:5}. And they have the assurance of eternal security, to rest in and rejoice in God.

To recap previous messages, we have been Justified by faith “through our LORD Jesus Christ.:- {Romans 5:1} and the result are a string of truths to stabilize, illumine the believer and give them rest and confidence in what God has done, is doing.

JUSTIFIED;

As a result of being Justified, which is the picture of Heaven’s court of Law and the Judge of all the earth who does right, declaring us not guilty and indeed having the very righteousness of Christ placed to our account and we are acquitted “through the LORD Jesus Christ.”  He who knew no sin took our place, bore our penalty and died for all of our sin, so we would not die in our sin, but “through” Him we have been gifted eternal life. Wonderful. Forever not guilty and the righteousness of Christ to our account where before God we are always Guilt free and Righteous! This is a declaration by God, has nothing to do with how you feel but based on a fact. God has declared you Justified!

1.- PEACE WITH GOD – Is not speaking of emotional, subjective peace but is used here as a state. We were at war with God as His “enemies.” God has declared the war is over, He no longer is at war with you! The war is over! We have peace with God because we have a right relationship “through our LORD Jesus Christ.”

2. – ACCESS – We have permanent access to God.

3. – STAND IN GRACE– We stand not in condemnation, nor stand in as state of guilt, but  you have been brought into this Standing in Grace. In the full acceptance and Divine favor of God and this is permanently so for you, His follower! We operate in this sphere of Grace that operates when we sin.

4. – EXULT IN THE HOPE OF GLORY – Reason to delight, rejoice, joyfully confident in the hope, the confident expectation of a future with God in Glory and all it means. We have a “confident expectation,” of a wonderful future ahead of us! Therefore we have no fear of the future for our future is Christ, to be “with Him!”

5. – EXULT IN YOUR SUFFERINGS – Because you are “Knowing.” the word means “to be fully alert” that God uses suffering to produce Godly change in your life! So, for the suffering Christian there is “hope,” that our suffering has a purpose in God’s hands to produce “perseverance, proven character,” hope” in the believer! So we can “exult,” “glory, boast” the word speaks of confidently joyful because of what we know is happening because He has revealed it to us in His Word! It does not relieve the pain but gives clarity for us in our pain!

6.- POSSESSED BY LOVE.– The LOVE of God lavishly continually poured out to assure you He loves You forever.

7. – THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT– To assure you, He loves you. He will never be taken from you-{Read John 14:16}. What eternal assurance for us! He lives in you. And one of His ministries is to assure you of God’s love for you!

And now to continue on in this wonderful show of His love for Us whom He has JUSTIFIED… whom He desires that we be assured that our salvation is forever, because it rests upon Him and what He has done!  Consider the next blessing to Assure us of our Eternal Security…

The wonderful Truth from Romans 5:1-11 is that God is for you now and forever will be for you, eternally so, through His Son!

8. SAVED

Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through Him!  For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!”

“Justified” this is the second time it is mentioned in the passage, v1 “justified by faith” and here “Justified by the His blood.” The cost of salvation was His life. He laid it down voluntarily and knowingly for our blessing, eternal benefit, and He did this for us and as a result we are saved from the wrath of God. And it is all because of and “through Him,” and it is all “for us.” The last two words in verse 8 are “For us,”…”Christ died for us.”  How amazing all the above blessings, benefits and what is to follow is “through” Him and all “for us.”

Note “Through Him “ we have…been

A-JUSTIFIED“- {v9} God declares us “Not Guilty” though we deserved Hell, “through the blood” of Jesus who took our place and died in our place, taking our place, paying the price for sin and we now are declared by God as “NOT GUILTY” and also “Righteous” as Christ’s righteousness is applied to us and we now have no record of sin against God. We are forgiven totally and completely, irrevocably and declared by the righteous Judge “Not Guilty… Righteous” this is assurance of our eternal security because we are Justified by the Blood of the LORD Jesus Christ! Because we are Justified by His blood we will not experience God’s judgement for our sin. he judged it on Jesus on our behalf and through His Blood we are “Not guilty,” and as a result we will not be condemned!  We are fully forgiven. {Read Col 2:12-13} And we are declared not guilty and righteous, “through His blood!”… “God did all this “For us.” How? “Christ died…”

B.-“SAVED FROM WRATH” – {v9}. As Noah and his family were protected in the provision of the ark from the wrath of God, so in Christ we are safe from the wrath of God. We are eternally protected. -{Read 1 Peter 1:5}. No longer “does the wrath of God abide “on those who believe in Him and whom have been declared Justified by faith through His Blood. -{John 3:36}. “Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.”-{Ephesians 2:3}. No longer are we children of wrath but children of God- “See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; “-{ 1 John 3:1}. Saved from wrath and the penalty of sin by His blood! God did all this “For us.” How? “Christ died…”

C.-“RECONCILED” – {v10}.The word was used originally of money changers, exchanging exact amounts of money.For example today we might say i have a 100 cents or pennies and I will “exchange” it for one dollar, or one euro, sterling, depending on the currency. It then came to mean of enemies who were estranged being brought together again in a right relationship,the animosity hatred gone. Foes became friends. God did this. We were His enemies, ungodly, sinners and god initiated and through His Son’s sacrifice saved us and declares us Justified and made peace. The peace is not an emotion but a fact. The war is Over! We have peace, access to God and stand in Grace and all the benefits of being in right standing with God “through Him” are ours, because of what He did! We are reconciled to God through the death of HIS Son the LORD Jesus, from enemies to enter into a right relationship with God, through the Blood of the LORD Jesus. The price for the great exchange was His sinless life, His blood! God did all this “For us.” How? “Christ died…”

D.-” SAVED BY HIS LIFE “– {v10}. This is not speaking about the life He lived on earth. But the life HE LIVES NOW As Resurrected LORD.  Since we were saved by the death of our Savior, much more,will we be sustained by His risen Life for all eternity!Jesus intercedes for us and nothing can sever this relationship for Jesus is our Advocate and  continually does so. We are safe and secure because Jesus is alive and ever lives to intercede for us!God did all this “For us.” How? “Christ died…”

  • HE IS OUR INTERCESSOR -” Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.”-{Heb 7:25 NLT}.

  • HE IS OUR ADVOCATE- “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; “-{1 John 2:1}

God did all this “For us.” How? “Christ died…”

E.- OUR JOY IS IN GOD! – “Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

“WE BOAST IN” Who? “GOD!” it is one thing to rejoice, exult, boast in the gifts received and forget the GIVER. But here Paul points us to GOD and He is the One who has done all this and made it all possible to be known, enjoyed and give us the assurance of eternal security through His Son, the LORD Jesus. “We JOY in GOD.”

This is the third time “Exult, …Rejoice… Boast..” is mentioned, in v 2,3, and here in v 11.

We Exult in The Hope Of The Glory Of God- v 2

We Exult in our Sufferings, Tribulations, – v 3

We Exult In GOD!-v 11

The word “Boast,” is translated “exult rejoice.” It means to be “joyfully confident.” We might say, exuberant, over the moon, delighted, thrilled to bits, ecstatic!  This  inner joy, delight is produced by the Holy Spirit. Our joy is in God and who He is, His character, attributes,and what He has done for us, it thrills our heart, in light of what we are and what He has done and is doing and will do, the Holy Spirit in us – whom God has gifted us with, causes this joy, boast, exuberance, joyful confidence in GOD. As you reflect on Romans 5:1-11 and ask the LORD to give you understanding and a heart of gratitude and joy in God, He will. And as you consider who did all this for you. You see it is GOD and all this done “through our LORD Jesus Christ.”

I will go to the altar of God,
To God my exceeding joy; -{Psalm 43:4}.”My exceeding joy.” Literally “The gladness of my joy.”

Because all these things are true,and all because of Him! GOD IS THE OBJECT AND SOURCE OF OUR JOY!

We Joy in GOD through the LORD Jesus Christ through whom we have received reconciliation. This is another link to assure us that our salvation is secure IN Christ.

The Rejoicing is not in the sufferings themselves but in the affects they produce!

Through” is mentioned 4 times “much more” mentioned twice. All these blessings are  “through our LORD Jesus Christ.”
