“Oh give thanks to the LORD for He is good…”-( Psalm 107:1)
I was just sitting here in pain and discomfort and thinking on Psalm107:1 and below are some thoughts that I hope will encourage you!
It doesn’t say, “Give thanks to the LORD if you are feeling good,” nor “Give thanks to the LORD if your circumstances are favorable and are good,”
Note. And it is so easy to miss it. The verses says “Oh, Give thanks to the LORD FOR (explains the reason to do so, namely), He is good!” It has nothing to do with circumstances but everything to do with HIM! Whatever the circumstances. Whatever the weather, whatever the difficulties, trials, or pleasantry, the focus on the extension of gratitude is ..the LORD and the reason to do so is because…HE IS… GOOD!
The circumstances, people, change, and not always for good. We change. At times consistently inconsistent. But it doesn’t change His Person, character for He is…Good, unchangingly so, eternaly! To say that God is Good means He acts accordingly to what is right, true and Good!
“The fact that God is good means that He has no evil in Him, His intentions and motivations are always good, He always does what is right, and the outcome of His plan is always good (see Genesis 50:20). There is nothing unpleasant, evil, or dark in Him. The Bible teaches that God’s goodness extends from His nature to everything that He does (Psalm 119:68). “The LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations” (Psalm 100:5). “‘-{Preceptaustin.com}
Consider His Promise;
- “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose”- {Romans 8:28}. It may not look good, feel good, or be good, “But God promises He will cause it to work together for “good” ultimately to conform us to the image of Christ-{verse 29}
So, whatever is going on around us is not what determines whether we give thanks to the LORD or not. We don’t wait for things to change before we give Him thanks. One reason we give Him thanks is because… He is Good! One Hebrew word for gratitude means to “Recognize the Good, or Goodness.”
What goodness can you recognize in Him… and as a result give Him thanks for?
The verse gives us one reason to give Him thanks when the Psalmist writes,” FOR (gives the reason to do so) His compassion and lovingkindness endure forever!”-(Psalm 107:1- Amplified bible)
Can you think of three truths about the LORD to Give Him THANKS for?
Trust Him to help you recognize His goodness and grow in gratitude to Him.
Circumstances do not determine our giving Him thanks. His character does! And in this verse it is His Goodness!
The giving of thanks Luke 17:18 shows is one way to practically-Glorify Him!:)
Oh give thanks to the LORD for He is GOOD and it GLORIFIES Him!
God bless
Aidan.
