What a Prayer!
“Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”-{Psalm 90:14}
Today I prayed this for various people.
Is there anyone along with yourself you can think of and pray this for them?
Someone come to mind?
Pray it for them, personalize by putting their name in instead of where it says “us…we…our.”
“Satisfy ___ in the morning with Your unfailing love, that _____ may sing for joy and be glad all _____ days.”
What Wonderful “fuel” for prayer to Him who has the power, heart, to grant your request!
The writer is convinced and knows that nothing or no one can take the place of God and satisfy like His unfailing love. Satisfaction is ignorantly sought in so many places and all are bankrupt sources! As the words of the old song say, “I can’t get no satisfaction, though I’ve tried and I’ve tried I can’t get no satisfaction!” People have sought it, society has offered through bill boards, tv ads products and places and things, possessions, prestige, seeking to entice us to believe their product, their way, is what we need to satisfy us. But they are vain and deceitful offers promising fulfillment and delivering false hopes, dreams, that cannot meet the satisfying of our greatest need,which is a vibrant relationship with God Himself!
We are offered “substitutes” false claims, great boasts, tied up and presented as the real deal but all are false hopes, like chasing bubbles and upon grabbing them they evaporate, no substance! For none of these “substitutes,” can meet the need of the heart for none were meant to! We were made by God and for God and He alone has the capacity, loving heart to continually satisfy us with Himself.
While society searches, gropes in spiritual darkness, seeking satisfaction Psalm 4;6 gives not only the question of many but also the definitive answer for the barrenness of the soul. “Many are saying, “Who will show us any good?” Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O LORD!”-{Psalm 4:6}. The LORD will do us good! “You are good, and what You do is good; teach me your decrees.”-{Psalm 119:68} He is good in His nature and out-flowing from His nature is that He does good. It is an extension and reflection of His heart. God is Good and every good and perfect gift continually comes down from Him, who does not change!
The Hebrew word for “Satisfy,” is “saba or sabea” which is a verb. It is used in Deuteronomy 31:20- “For when I bring them into the land flowing with milk and honey, which I swore to their fathers, and they have eaten and are satisfied…“The NIV says ,”…eat their fill and thrive.” As good nutritious food is to the stomach, to meet, strengthen and satisfy the hunger need, so in the spiritual realm God Himself is the Satisfier of the heart and one means He “feeds” us to satisfy us is through His “unfailing love!” “Satisfy,” {Saba} means to “fill to satisfaction…have enough… to be full of…”
The word, “unfailing love,” is the Hebrew word, “chesed,” translated, “goodness, kindness,” and in the NASB is translated as “lovingkindness…deeds of devotion… mercy…unchanging love.” God satisfies us with His deeds of devotion, mercy, unchanging love, lovingkindness, goodness. It is not mere “wishes” but deeds acts of devotion, kindness and goodness to us!
‘The only thing that will secure life-long gladness is a heart satisfied with the experience of God’s love.’ This means that nothing will satisfy the human heart ultimately except God.”- {Alaxander Maclaren}. ”
“Oh satisfy us early with thy mercy; literally, satisfy us in the morning with thy mercy; i.e. “after a night of trouble, give us a bright morning of peace and rest.” That we may rejoice and be glad all our days; rather, and we will rejoice and be glad, etc.”-{Pulpit Commentaries}
“The renewal of His love is associated with “the morning” (cf. Psalm 30:5; 49:14; 143:8; Lam 3:23), as the light of day is contrastive with the darkness (gloom) of the night. Thus the psalmist prays for a new beginning, which the Lord alone can open up for his people.” (VanGemeren)
God satisfies.
God has the ability to satisfy
God has the Loving heart to satisfy
God Does Satisfy!
Pray and ask Him to satisfy you… and pray it for others
So, with hope, and confidence in Him who is kind, good, loving, we appeal to Him to satisfy us, as only He can and is our need. So we turn to Him and trust Him to do what HE ALONE CAN, and is gladly willing to do!
“…That we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”
What a Prayer! What a Glorious God we have to turn to and expect Him to meet the need of our poor hearts. False “hopes,” experiences promises seek to raise their heads and offer us sustained “satisfaction,” at various stages, but all are false offers, for only God can satisfy the hearts of the people He has made for Himself.
