“Failure is a part of the life of faith,” I had shared this with a young believer who had just got through telling me that David was one of his military heroes. When I shared that “failure is part of the life of faith.” He thought for awhile and said,”I don’t believe that!” I began to share with him from the lives of those who are in Hebrews chapter 11, which some have called “The Hall Of Faith.”And yet in it we read of people who had failed in their lives, Abraham, Moses, Samson and others and yet we read “and all these gained approval through their faith.” Failure was temporal not terminal! At times they chose to trust in themselves and not Him,“But God…” did not give up, He continued pursuing them, drawing them from self reliance to dependence upon Him who loved them. Some suffered greatly for their faith like Moses, and even the people whom the book of Hebrews was written to were suffering, but the writer reminds them of those who gone before them and their lives, not perfect, but a perfect God who undertook for them. Failure is a part of the life of faith, and the failings along the way can be due to ignorance of Him, His Word, disobedience, succumbing to living by feelings as our guide rather than His Word governing us.“But God…” He does not give up on us because we are His and His steadfast love for us is unchanging.
God begins with drawing you to Himself, and developing you through His Word, circumstances, to wean off of self reliance to dependence upon Him. Along the way there are failings, but they are not final…
For “He who began a good work in you will complete it.”- {Phil 1:6}.
