The WILL of God you be SPIRIT CONTROLLED.

“…understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…”-{ Eph 5:15-20}.

The Holy Spirit is not “a thing” an “it,” but a Person!

“The fact that the Holy Spirit is God is clearly seen in many Scriptures, including Acts 5:3-4. In this verse Peter confronts Ananias as to why he lied to the Holy Spirit and tells him that he had “not lied to men but to God.” It is a clear declaration that lying to the Holy Spirit is lying to God. We can also know that the Holy Spirit is God because He possesses the characteristics of God. For example, His omnipresence is seen in Psalm 139:7-8, “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” Then in 1 Corinthians 2:10-11, we see the characteristic of omniscience in the Holy Spirit. “But God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

The Holy Spirit is Divine Person as He possesses a mind, emotions, and a will. The Holy Spirit thinks and knows (1 Corinthians 2:10). The Holy Spirit can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30). The Spirit intercedes for us (Romans 8:26-27). He makes decisions according to His will (1 Corinthians 12:7-11). The Holy Spirit is God, the third Person of the Trinity. As God, the Holy Spirit can truly function as the Comforter and Counselor that Jesus promised He would be (John 14:162615:26).”-{gotquestions.com}

Consider some of The Holy Spirit’s ministry :

It is possible to know GOD’S REVEALED WILL – “Understand (present imperative = command to make this your daily practice) . God is not playing “Hide And Seek” with us. He doesn’t want us guessing “what is His will?” but has revealed it in His Word. Ignorance is not bliss but spiritually detrimental to us and dishonoring to Him as it ignores Him and His Word. God wants us to continually understand that we are to be controlled, dominated, in submission to His Spirit, who alone empowers us to live the Christian life! “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.”-{Phil 2:13 NLT}.

When a person is drunk they are not in control of themself. They behave irrationally and are out of control due to being under the control of alcohol. Their thinking, discernment, and walking can and are affected. Something else controls them—alcohol. When a person is filled with the Spirit, Someone else controls him—the  Spirit of God.

The contrast between being under the influence of alcohol versus the influence, control of the Holy Spirit, which is manifest in submission to the Spirit, Speech that is different, Song in the heart to the Lord, Saying Thanks continually, and it goes on to speak of Submission in relationships.

The Spirit of God is the believer’s Power to do the will of God! To be under His power means to be Under His authority, and the authority of His Word also. Consider Colossians 3:16 – Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and  spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

Note the similarities between Ephesians 5 and Col 3.  The Word of God is mentioned in both passages as are “…psalms and hymns…spiritual songs… singing… with thankfulness in your heart to the LORD.” To be “filled” is to be controlled, permeated, dominated,” and when the Spirit of God is in control, the person will be in submission to the Word of God!

It is not possible to be Filled with the Spirit and be living in defiance to the Word of God!

And when both are in submission to, then speech, song, and relationships are different. Gratitude towards the Lord and Serving others from a heart of love are characterized and manifested! -{Read Galatians 5:13}.
