God heals the brokenhearted. We live in a brokenhearted world, since the time Adam chose to willfully disobey God.

People are..,

  • Brokenhearted  as a result of sin, their own or at times those of others.
  • Brokenhearted from rejection
  • Brokenhearted from abuse
  • Brokenhearted from disappointment
  • Brokenhearted from betrayal
  • Brokenhearted from the death of a loved one.
  • Brokenhearted from isolation
  • Brokenhearted from illness
  • Brokenhearted from divorce
  • Brokenhearted from the loss of a child
  • Brokenhearted from the damage drugs have done to a child, parent, grand-child.
  • Brokenhearted from the waywardness of a child, parent, grand child, parent.
  • Brokenhearted from personal failure through sin.
  • Brokenhearted over the passing of a soul into eternity
  • Brokenhearted over the lostness of a soul
  • Brokenhearted over the rejection of the LORD Jesus
  • Brokenhearted over the turning away from the LORD
  • Brokenhearted over the rejection of the Word of God

There are countless reasons for being brokenhearted, None unknown by God or unique to you or me or others…  Tears cried, sleepless fueled nights, loss of appetite. Days, nights, weeks, months even years of carrying intense sapping brokenhearted burdens for others that have caused the ache, pain. On the outside you or I may look “fine” but internally broken-hearted. The false smiles cannot heal or bind up the pain. The mixture of pills and or alcohol, may mask it for a few short hours, but morning comes, and the false advertisement of relief, that alcohol, drugs offer are exposed as counterfeits to One who can heal! Yet, we often settle for second or third best, anything other than Him. Why is that? Why do we return to the “vomit” as a dog does? Why do we return to the filth as a pig does?

  • Why do we as believers at times foolishly reject His wisdom and choose to “lean to our own understanding?”  Prov 3:5. Verse 7 says, “Do not be wise in your own eyes…” instead, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.”{Prov 3:5-7}.

The Psalmist said,”Their insults have broken my heart, and I am in despair. If only one person would show some pity;  if only one would turn and comfort me.”-{Psalm 69:20 nlt}. There is ONE who cares and will show compassion and understanding, the Good news for the brokenhearted, in this verse, His people, He says in Psalm  147:3 these words of hope..,

“He Heals the brokenhearted and Binds up their wounds.”

The word “Heals,”{Rapha} means “to mend {by stitching}. ie. “to cure, heal physician, repair thoroughly, make whole.” The word “brokenhearted – “broken,” means to “break…to break in pieces… Hurt, destroy, tear…” “In Heart,” means  “heart, figuratively, of the feelings, the will and  even the intellect.” “Binds” “to wrap firmly,{especially a turban, compress, or saddle, figuratively to stop, – to rule, bind up, govern… healer…wrap about.” – The word “wound” mean,”a hurt, injury, pain, sorrow.” {KJV Lexicon}. This Healing of the heart is exclusive. God heals… Jesus was sent with purpose, He said…

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,”- {Luke 4:18}

God is called “Jehovah RAPHA” in the Old Testmant which means The God who heals. “Rapha means “to restore, to heal, or to cure.” God heals. God restores. God cures!

You have heard it said, “Time heals!” Not so. “Time” distances, “time passes,” but does not heal! God heals! In HIS loving concern for you- He heals. He gives “grace,” He imparts healing. He draws us closer to Himself in our dependence upon Him and our learning more and more of His loyal love to us as recorded in His Word and promises! He heals us by His Spirit and His Word.  “Rapha” is His Name. Call upon Him. “Call upon Me in the day of trouble and I will deliver you. And you will glorify Me.”-{Psalm 50:15}. Is anything too hard for the LORD? “…NOTHING…is Too Hard for You.”-{Jer 32:17}. And that includes your broken  and wounded heart.

Note; He knows about their broken-hearts and He knows about the wounds. And He steps in and HEALS and BINDS Up the wounds. None too far gone, none that He cannot heal brokenhearted people and bind up their wounds!

Those who hurt, crushed in spirit – the brokenhearted and the wounded – are  persons, no matter how many, each personally is an object of His affection, loving care.

“Hearts are broken through disappointment. Hearts are broken through bereavement. Hearts are broken in ten thousand ways, for this is a heart-breaking world; and Christ is good at healing all manner of heart- breaks” (Spurgeon). Spurgeon described many reasons why Jesus is good at healing the brokenhearted.

· Jesus is educated for this work, having His own heart broken.

· Jesus is experienced in this work, having healed broken hearts for 2,000 years.

· Jesus is willing to take the worst patients, and has never yet lost a patient.

· Jesus heals broken hearts with medicine that He himself provides.

ii. “That God tells the number of the stars is only what we should expect of Him… But that He should be able to bend over one broken heart and bind it with His sympathy and heal its flowing wounds, this is wonderful, amazing, divine.” (Meyer)

iii. Binds up their wounds: “As a good shepherd, Zechariah 11:4, that good Samaritan,”He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him.”-  Luke 10:34, and as a good surgeon dealeth by his patient.” (Trapp)

The LORD Jesus Came with a purpose and among it is the Healing of the Brokenhearted! How wonderful. He is your Hope! He is your Healer. HE KNOWS how to Heal your broken heart. He knows about your wounds, and He can heal them, Come to Him and ask Him to heal. He is able. He is able to cause all things, including the pain, the broken heart to work out for good- because you love Him and are the called. {Read Rom 8:28-29}.

“Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust.”- {Psalm 103:13-14}.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction  SO THAT we will be able to comfort those who are in  any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.“-{2 Cor 1:3-4}.

“And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.”-{2 Cor 12:9}

In Psalm 147;1-3, shows forth the Greatness of God’s Grace to the afflicted and the response of Praise to Him for it.

Like the good Samaritan shows us, He acts. He personally gets involved. He loves PEOPLE. HE MEETS THEM IN THEIR NEED AND SEEKS AND DOES HELP THEM! He does for them what they cannot do for themselves! He heals because He cares, has the power, and heart, loving heart of compassion to do so!

PRAISE HIM, who heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds!

PRAISE HIM that He not only knows the broken-hearted and wounded but intimately cares for them and DOES Something about it.

PRAISE HIM for His Infinite Wisdom, Power and Kindness in meeting the needs of His people! {Psalm 147:1-3}.

Come to Him and ask of Him… let Him heal your broken and wounded heart. He is able. He cares for you. He loves you. Whatever has broken your heart and wounded you, He is able to heal your heart, emotionally, spiritually.

Memorize this verse – Psalm 147:3 and remember in the context verse 1 say we are to “PRAISE “Him… for His infinite power, wisdom in healing the broken and wounded heart!
