Can you imagine an athlete in a ball game thinking that when they go out to play they will face no resistance? The other team seeing them advance with the ball will part like the Red Sea before them making it as easy as possible so they may score? Crazy! More like the opposition team will descend upon them with such force, and cunning, so as to stop them from advancing never mind scoring!

And while we see such situations played out before us in sport, we somehow as followers of Christ think in this world we will have it easy, no opposition. But consider this promise, which I doubt you will find for sale at a Christian Bok store… may not be a “best seller,”- “Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted”-{2 Timothy 3:12}. Or how about this one? “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” Or, “And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat.”-{Luke 22:31}. Or what about this one, “But humans are born for trouble as surely as sparks fly upward.”-{Job 5:7}. Or, “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”-{Ephesians 6:12}. Opposition is normal, to be expected. -” I don’t want Satan to outwit us. After all, we are not ignorant about Satan’s scheming.”- {2 Cor 2:11.}

God has made us competent through dependence upon Him, the power of His indwelling Spirit, and His Word to enlighten, and empower us to overcome…

  • “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” – Ephesians 6:10-18
  • “We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.”-{2 Corinthians 10:4}-

“These powerful weapons can “destroy strongholds,” translated quite literally from the Greek ‘kathairesin ochyrōmatōn. ‘This phrase implies the ability to overcome resistance and break through barriers. The Greek root word ‘ochuroma’ also referred to arguments used during a debate; this adds a focus to Paul’s statement. In other letters, Paul describes prayer and the Word of God as spiritual weapons (Ephesians 6:17–18). These weapons access God’s power to destroy concentrated resistance of God’s enemies, particularly by demonstrating that they are false.”-{Bible}

In this world, we have opposition, an evil adversary tempting us to worship him through offerings, things, possessions, positions, etc as he did in Matthew 4, rather than the LORD Jesus; A world system opposed to the LORD Jesus and His Word. And we have the flesh, “BUT GOD…” has not left us without His help to counteract the opposition we face to love Him and love others. His Spirit; His Word; And Prayer and fellow believers to help us live to Honor Him!

Opposition is to be expected, But can be overcome through Christ who infuses you with strength-{Phil 4:13} –
