Mark 8 – DON’T FORGET TO REMEMBER! –{Read v 1-9}
The Gospel of Mark is fast moving, like snapshot after snapshot and this chapter is no different. It begins with crowds of people around Jesus and His concern for them but also His opportunity for His disciples to see what was in the own hearts regarding their faith. An opportunity for their faith to grow and be expressed confidently when He spoke about the people’s needing to fed lest they faint on the way home having been with Him for three days.
The disciples didn’t know how the people could be fed. “And His disciples replied to Him, “Where will anyone be able to find enough bread here in this desolate place to satisfy these people?”-{v4}
They FORGOT TO REMEMBER…
He had fed 5000 on an earlier occasion and they were there having handed out the food after Jesus had taken five loaves and two fish, and then seeing all of the people were full and satisfied and how they collected 12 baskets of left overs. They had been there but had forgotten to remember what Jesus had done! -{Read Matthew14:13-21}
THE COMPASSION OF JESUS;
“In those days, when there was again a large crowd and they had nothing to eat, Jesus summoned His disciples and *said to them, “I feel compassion for the people because they have remained with Me for three days already and have nothing to eat. And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way; and some of them have come from a great distance…”-{v1:3}.
THE COMPETENCY OF JESUS – AGAIN!
“And He was asking them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.” And He *directed the people to recline on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks and broke them, and started giving them to His disciples to serve, and they served them to the people. They also had a few small fish; and after He had blessed them, He told the disciples to serve these as well. And they ate and were satisfied; and they picked up seven large baskets full of what was left over of the broken pieces. About four thousand men were there; and He dismissed them.”-{Mark 8 :5-9}
How often do we find ourselves in a new situation and FORGET TO REMEMBER HIM AND HOW WE HAVE SEEN HIM MEET OTHERS AND US IN THE PAST!
CONSIDER THREE NEEDS…
Two needs in the story…
- The people’s need – for food. Jesus met their need.
- The disciples need – to see where their faith was and the opportunity to grow and express their faith in Him.
And the need of the readers of the account in Mark 8 of the feeding of the4,000… you and me!
- Your and my need – to learn to Remember what He has done, can do!
THOUGHTS FOR TODAY;
Don’t Forget To Remember What The LORD Jesus has Done In The Past For Others And…You!
Don’t Forget To Remember What Jesus has done in the past in order to draw strength for your present TEST OF FAITH.…
ASK HIM TO REMIND YOU OF HIMSELF – AS WE ARE PRONE TO FORGET HIM IN TIME OF CRISIS, TESTING!
DON’T FORGET TO REMEMBER JESUS!
God Bless,
Aidan,
