“Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. 37- For yet in a very little while, He who is coming will come, and will not delay. But My righteous one will live by faith; And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” -{Hebrews 10:35-38}
Perseverance is not optional!
The writer of Hebrews says,” For you have need of perseverance (endurance)…” The word “Have,” is in the present tense which means both now and always, there is never a time when you do not need to practice Perseverance! But with hope. The Confident expectation in God who promises to fulfill His Word! The hope of future reward the writer encourages them with. -{Read Revelation 22:12}. Looking beyond the suffering, and difficulties to what God has promised. This perseverance, and endurance in Hope in who God is and what He says is necessary to do the will of God is possible for the child of God, irrespective of the circumstances!
Perseverance { “hupomone” from hypomeno, the verb,} “there is the idea of energetic resistance, steadfastness under pressure, and endurance in the face of trials… In the New Testament the main sense of “hypomeno” is perseverance or steadfastness.” -{Bakers Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology}. “… remaining under, endurance, steadfastness, especially as God enables the believer to “remian{endure} under the challenges He allots in life.“-{ Helps Word studies}
Here are Three Reasons How To Persevere, and endure, and steadfastly through the troubles, and difficulties of life. To bear up under the burden, push forward despite the obstacles as you continue to seek to Honor God!
- God GIFTS perseverance-{Read Rom 15:5}
- and yet we must choose to persevere! -{Heb 11:36}
James tells us to Rejoice because we know that perseverance is developed through trials!-{James 1:2-4}. Paul in Romans 5:3-4 Paul tells us we are to rejoice because we know that God uses sufferings to develop perseverance! So, we have need of perseverance to do the will of God, and God supplies it and we are to choose to apply it!
Consider these 3 Ways How To Persevere In Your Christian Life…
1.-REWARD; TAKE HIM AT HIS WORD!
Believing the Promises of God and future reward to those who do!-(v35-36).
“Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised”-{v35-36}
How easy in the pressure to turn away from what God has promised either through choice or neglect in replacing what He has promised. He has given us “precious and magnificent promises…”-( 2 Peter 1:4) to be used! These suffering believers in Hebrews were encouraged to persist in what they knew to be true! God rewards those who are persistent under duress in remaining true to His Will as revealed in His Word. God sees, God knows, God enables, God rewards faithfulness! We build perseverance, endurance, and steadfastness as we practice, and apply it to our circumstances. As weight training is to the building up and strengthening of the body, perseverance is in the spiritual realm to build up our spiritual stamina, faith to continue Trusting God and taking Him at His Word despite what we see or face. It is to do the next thing, the Honorable thing with God’s glory in mind! We walk by faith in what He says and not what we see as our authority!
The promises of God when applied strengthen our faith as said of Abraham, “Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”-{Romans 4:19-21}
2.- RETURN; LOOKING FOR HIS RETURN!
Living And looking To and for the Return of Jesus-(v 37).
“For yet in a very little while, He who is coming will come, and will not delay.-{v 37}
We often look forward but how seldom do we look forward in our thinking, planning, longing, and looking forward to and for the return of the LORD Jesus Christ? We have to cultivate that thinking through His Word. A good study would be to look at what His Word teaches in regard to His second coming. 1 and 2 Thessalonians speak of it.
What a great passage in Acts 1:10-11 to meditate upon, reading over and over, and before long you will have committed to memory so the Holy Spirit can bring back to your memory and encourage you, ” As they strained to see Him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday He will return from heaven in the same way you saw Him go!” -{Acts 1:10-11}
3.- RELATIONSHIP; WALK WITH HIM! – (v38).
{LIVING BY FAITH IN THE LORD JESUS!}
“But My righteous one will live by faith;”-{v 38}
- Everyone lives by faith, confident trust in something or someone.
But for the follower of Christ, it is meant to be in God. One way to build our faith, and confidence is to familiarize ourselves with who Jesus has revealed Himself in the Gospels so the Spirit of God can use to strengthen our faith so in times of trouble we fall back on His character. His Person, Promises, Power.
- “…The one who has seen Me has seen the Father;…”-(John 14:9);
- ”…And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning Himself.”-( Luke 24:27);
- ”Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.”-( Luke 24:45) May He open our minds to see Him in the Scriptures…to strengthen our affection and trust in Him so as to honor Him. And this we do as we persevere in faith, as faith Pleases Him-{Hebrews 11:6} and Glorifies Him -{Read Rom 4:19-21}, as we exercise a faith in Him that perseveres! How? Taking Him at His Word. Looking For His Return, Living by Faith in Him!
A good study is to read the Book of Hebrews and note what it says about the LORD Jesus, the Superiority of Christ is revealed throughout the Book. And as you do so it will be “fuel” for your faith and worship.
God bless you, strengthening you inwardly by His Spirit, through His Word to endure, persevering …Believing His promises and the reward, Looking for His return, and living by faith in Him who loves you and gave Himself up for you!
REWARD- Take Him at His Word.
RETURN- Look For His return.
RELATIONSHIP- Walk With Him- Live by Faith in Him!
