“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.

Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story— those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those He gathered from the lands,

from east and west, from north and south.” -{Psalm 107:1-3}

The Psalmist begins with, “Oh GIVE thanks to the LORD…”

“LORD”– He is to be the Focus and recipient of thanksgiving. The word “LORD” as used here is “Yahwah” The self-existent One. {Ex 3:14}; We see various attributes of the LORD as used in Scripture such as …

  • The LORD is GOD-{Gen 2:4;}
  • The LORD PROVIDER-{Gen 22:8-14};
  • The LORD PROMISE KEEPER-{Deut 7:9}
  • The LORD who is HOLY, SOVEREIGN One-{Isaiah 6:1-3};
  • The LORD UNCHANGING-{Malachi 3:6}.

These are but some aspects of the LORD, Like looking at a beautiful diamond from various angles and seeing something of its splendor, but a poor illustration to compare of Him. Maybe take time and read the verses mentioned above and the verses around them so you get the context of the verse and use it as a means to Know Him better and as a springboard to intelligently GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD, based on His Word!

“THANKS” – The word, “THANKS” {Hebrew word -Hadah} means to Praise or Give Thanks. The Psalmist calls on the LORD’S people to GIVE Him what is rightly due Him. To acknowledge Who He is, His character, and what He has done for them in blessing them, having done good to them, including redeeming, rescuing, and delivering them. Give Him what is proper and rightly due to HIM! Read the 4 stories in Psalm 107:6-9;13-15;19-21;28-31.

The LORD is the focus and to be the recipient of their Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is not GIVEN to GET but GIVEN because it is the proper response of the recipients of the Goodness, lovingkindness, and Redeeming deeds of the LORD.

CONSIDER THREE REASONS TO GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD;

1.- “GOOD.” –

The first time this Hebrew word {tob} is used is in Genesis 1:31 where it speaks of the CREATION account. “God saw all that He had made, and it was very GOOD. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.” The word “Good” speaks of “Beautiful, pleasant, agreeable.” The rest of Psalm 107 gives evidence, testimony to His Goodness! Read the chapter and list where it shows His Goodness!

2.- “LOVING KINDNESS”

The Hebrew word- “Hesed.” It speaks of a variety of meanings such as “Kindness, lovingkindness, mercy, faithfulness, love.”

His Loyal Love, Mercy. One of the ways the LORD showed forth His Goodness was through His “enduring” Lovingkindness, mercy, steadfast love, loyal love, Covenant Keeping love,” to His people. The LORD shows His Goodness through acts such as Lovingkindness. His “lovingkindness” is a permanent love He has committed to His people! It is a beautiful act of permanence that He committed to His Beloved people. How comforting! The Psalmist wants them to know it was not a flippant love, a start-stop love, but an enduring lovingkindness He had set upon them and held towards them, a loyal love – as He does for you who are “In Christ!”

The Word “Endures,” speaks of that which is permanent.

3.- “REDEEMED”

The Hebrew word “Ga al” was used of making a payment, paying to free a prisoner, or restoring the land to its true owner. In this verse, it is used of deliverance, saved, rescued.

The Psalmist is calling the people whom the LORD has delivered, rescued, saved to give Him His due, and THANK Him.

  • Thank Him for His Goodness,
  • Thank Him for His Lovingkindness,
  • Thank Him for His Redeeming them!
  • GIVE THANKS to the LORD by acknowledging His Deliverance in their salvation from their foes, and adversaries!

And then The Psalmist tells the people how to Respond

“Let the redeemed of the Lord TELL THEIR STORY—”

You Too Can GIVE THANKS to the LORD;

  • For His GOODNESS TO YOU,
  • LOVINGKINDNESS TO YOU.
  • REDEEMING YOU, through the precious blood of the LORD Jesus from the slavery of sin, satan’s authority and Divinely Rescuing you to the safety of Himself having transferred you from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of His Beloved Son!

EVANGELISM;

And what a great motivation for evangelism- HE IS WORTHY FOR ALL TO GIVE HIM THANKS. For not, all live grateful to Him. and He is worthy for all to Thank Him, so this should be a motivation to tell others of Him, that by turning to Him they may give thanks to the LORD, and know His goodness, lovingkindness, and redeeming power for them!

  • TELL OF HIM…
  • TELL YOUR STORY OF HIS GOODNESS, LOVINGKINDNESS, REDEMPTION to and for you!

GIVE THANKS…SPECIFICALLY… TO THE LORD!

GO TELL YOUR STORY – OF HIM AND HIS WORK IN YOUR LIFE TOO!

God Bless
