Romans 5;1-11 is a wonderful passage of assurance for the believer of eternal security, as in this passage Paul refers to what God has done for the believer.
The word “EXULT,{Kauchaomai} it means to rejoice. A Confident Boasting. A Confident joy, not superficial or emotional. But a confidence in what we have through our LORD Jesus Christ. We are Justified, have permanent peace with God, Standing in Grace, hope of future glory, Hope in Suffering, The love of God, the Gift of the Holy Spirit, Saved from the wrath of God, Reconciled to GOD and all this we learn “through our LORD Jesus Christ.”
The word “Exult, Rejoice, or Boast.”
It means literally, to Boast or Glory in. It has the idea of both confidence and joy in it, to be Joyfully confident is one way to say it!
It s not boasting in self but in God which is right as 1 Cor. 1:31; Gal. 6:14; Phil. 3:3, teaches!
It means to be “joyfully confident.” We might say, exuberant, over the moon, delighted, thrilled to bits, ecstatic! This inner joy, delight is produced by the Holy Spirit. Our joy is in God and who He is, His character, attributes, and what He has done for us, it thrills our heart, in light of what we are and what He has done and is doing and will do, the Holy Spirit in us – whom God has gifted us with, causes this joy, boast, exuberance, joyful confidence in GOD. As you reflect on Romans 5:1-11 and ask the LORD to give you understanding and a heart of gratitude and joy in God, He will. And as you consider who did all this for you. You see it is GOD and all this done “through our LORD Jesus Christ.”
It is what God has done! And in it we find the word, “Exult,” mentioned three times.
We Exult In Future Glory
“and we exult in hope of the glory of God “- v2. The Glory of being with Him. The glory of having new bodies, “For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die,“- {1 Cor 15:53-54}
Dr. Barnhouse (ibid., Part 20, pp. 1037-1038) illustrated the joys of heaven by picturing a soldier in a cold foxhole, eating K-rations. He has to stay there day and night to hold his unit’s position against the enemy. Then one night he hears a voice call out his name and serial number. It’s another soldier telling him, “I have orders to replace you. You are to go out on the next Red Cross flight. An order has come for you to go home. You have to go back to your mother’s house. They’re going to give you a hot shower and clean clothes. You have to go home and eat your mother’s Southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, with apple pie and ice cream for dessert.” And the soldier replies, “Oh! You don’t mean that I’m going to have to leave this nice foxhole and give up my K-rations, do you?”
Barnhouse says, “We smile at the absurdity of the idea, and yet there are some believers, perhaps some of you … who are unwilling to leave your foxhole in this life to go to the Heavenly home to sit down at the banquet table of our God and to fellowship with Him in [the] joys of Heaven ….” -{Steven Cole}
We Exult In Our Tribulations;
“And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”- {v 3-5}. The word “knowing” means “to be fully aware.” God wants us to be fully aware what He is doing in these tribulations, times of sufferings. The word “tribulations,” speak of “those things that cause you distress.” And out of these great times of pressure, He against us to know He is “producing” somethings in our life, namely, “perseverance, proven character, hope that does not disappoint.” Persevering, persistently going forward triumphant, through the storms of life, doing what is right. “Proven character.” The word “proven” was used of metal steel that was put through intense heat, that was regulated and watched over to produce something specific! The strengthening of the metal. So God is strengthening your faith, shaping your character “Hope” the word is not as we often use it as in “I hope so” more of a wish rather than a certainty. But Scriptural hope speaks of certainty, “confident expectation!” And this hope does not disappoint us or shame us. Why not? Because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was gifted to us!. While none of us like pressures, sufferings, tribulations yet even in these we find reason to exult, boast in Joyful confidence because we are not ignorant concerning what is happening but are informed through His Word!
We Exult In GOD
“And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. ” – v 11
How wonderful the root of our joyful confidence, boasting is in GOD Himself! Not merely His gifts to us but Himself the giver. “Acquaint yourself with God and be at peace.”-{Job 22:21}. “ This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. “-{John 17:3}, “making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.“-{ Eph 1:17}. To know Him more and more and as we do, we have reason to be confident in Him and to worship Him for who He truly is. “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.“-{John 4:23-24}.
Knowing Him for who He is , submitting to Him and growing to know Him more and more that we might intelligently worship Him in spirit and in truth! Unlike when the people made a golden calf and said that was “God,” who had delivered them from Egypt. They had fashioned a “god” of their own understanding, but it could not speak, move, help them communicate to them. They had to take care of it! They worshiped in “ignorance.” To Know Him more and more as the Spirit of God teaches us of Him from His Word will help us worship and boast confidently, gladly in who He is!
Three reasons to Be Joyfully Confident as you…
CONSIDER Your Future Glory!-
CONSIDER Your Present Understanding of What GOD is “producing” through your sufferings…
CONSIDER GOD! He is the One who is reason fro you to have confidence and delight in and He is the One who gives you the Holy Spirit and His Word to produce that confidence and delight in!
“Thus says the Lord, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches;but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord.“-{Jeremiah 9;23-24}
