Questions, questions, questions. Which of us has not had questions come to mind about God. The Psalmist at one stage has six such come to his mind during his hurt in what he refers to as “in the day of my trouble, in the night…”(v2). and it is seen by some questions that come to his MIND such as these
SIX QUESTIONS;
“Will the LORD Reject forever? And will He not be Favorable again? Has His loving kindness ceased forever? Has His promise come to and end forever? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Or had He in anger withdrawn His Compassion?” He asks those questions, which seek to attack the character of God and rob him of His comfort, compassion, and consistency as He who loves and cares for him.
But note with those questions that attack the character of God accusing Him to him, he does not stay there for there is a “But God…” at work in his life to such an end he answers himself with, ”I shall REMEMBER the deeds of the LORD; Surely I will REMEMBER Your wonders of old. I will MEDITATE on all Your work and MUSEon Your Deeds.”-(v11-12). Yes, that same mind that would accuse God to him has the capacity to see Him in light of who He has revealed Himself to be in History.
To THINK RIGHT ABOUT HIM Begins with knowing the Truth about Him and REMEMBERING Him, His as “ GOD who works WONDERS; You have MADE KNOWN Your strength among the peoples. You have by Your Power Redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph.”-( v14-15). He REMEMBERS God’s HISTORY and dealings with His people! We learn His History from His Word and from His Dealings with us in the past. REMEMBER YOUR HISTORY!
* REMEMBER GOD’S HISTORY with – OTHERS from His Word!
* REMEMBER GOD’S HISTORY with – YOU!
When you feel like God has forgotten you.When questions bombard your MIND attacking the character, and trustworthiness of God to you, when days of trouble are real, intense when sleep won’t come as a result. Note what the psalmist does. He REMEMBERS the LORD and as a result …
1.- He chooses to WORSHIP GOD Through REMEMBRANCE.-(v13-15)
“Your way, God, is holy;
What god is great like our God?
You are the God who works wonders;
You have made known Your strength among the peoples.
By Your power You have redeemed Your people,
The sons of Jacob and Joseph.“-(v13-15)
2.- He chooses to REMEMBER THE LORD;
HE RECALL GOD’S GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, DEEDS! He recalls His intervention and deliverance of Israel at the Red Sea. -(v16-20)
Overall he Chooses to REMEMBER! He remembers God, His workings. He changes his focus. It’s not that he does not have a “in day of my trouble” but even there we see what he does “I sought the LORD.”-( v 2) and from there he REMEMBERS The LORD!
