“Praise The LORD… Let Everything that has BREATH PRAISE The LORD.” {Psalm 150:1,6}

The Psalmist 13 times in these 6 verses says we are commanded and its also a verb, so we are continually as the habit of our lives to Praise, boast, be sincerely appreciative in Him, His character and Works. But “who is the LORD that I should obey Him?” Pharaoh mockingly asked. And the LORD showed Him just who He was! But let us look at the word, “LORD” and see 8 attributes, truths about Him that are revealed by the way the word is used to express something  true about Him that He wants us to know about Him…

The LORD is…

1. THE SELF EXISTING ONE. – It is used in Exodus 3:15 to reveal the LORD as the Independent One, Self-Existent, in need of nothing or no one outside of Himself. The Eternal “I Am.” The Self Existing One, who has no beginning nor end. “Praise  the LORD!”

2. CREATOR. – “For this is what the LORD says– He who created the heavens, He is God; He who fashioned and made the earth, He founded it; He did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited– He says: “I am the LORD, and there is no other.”-{Isaiah 45:18}.“Praise  the LORD!”

3. PROVIDER. – In Genesis 24:14 – we see the LORD is Revealed as Jehovah Jireh. The LORD the Provider- He has pre-vision and makes Provision. -“So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” The mountain of praise – worship –thanksgiving. “Praise  the LORD!”

4. PROMISE KEEPING ONE.- In Deuteronomy 7:9 is used of the LORD as the Covenant Keeping One. He who promises and has the power to exercise the fulfillment of each promise He makes. He is unable and unwilling to break a promise, He never has and He never will! “Praise  the LORD!”

5. –EXALTED ONE.– who is High and Lifted up- Worshiped and Adored- Isaiah 6:1-6…. And it was Jesus whom Isaiah saw and in Phil 2- it is the LORD Jesus TO WHOM EVERY KNEE shall bow and tongue confess that He is LORD to the glory of God. “Praise  the LORD!”

6. –SOVEREIGN ONE. – In Isaiah 45:11-18 the LORD is revealed as the Sovereign One. The last five letters of Sovereign- reign… speaks to the meaning, He REIGNS. He is in control. There is no cosmic battle, of a sea -saw struggle between Him and satan or the powers that be. He is  the LORD, Sovereign God – He reigns over all! “Praise  the LORD!”

7. –UNCHANGING ONE.- In Malachi 3:6 it is used of the LORD as the Unchanging One. He is consistently the same. Immutable. No change. Always the same. ““I am the LORD, and I do not change.”…“Praise  the LORD!”

8. – GOD. – In Genesis 2:4. -“This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made earth and heaven.” The LORD is revealed as GOD! “Praise  the LORD!”

Here are 8 Reasons to think on, Read the Scriptures mentioned and incorporate into your thinking and Praise. Meditate on  each one. Pick one a day for the next week and THINK on it and PRAISE Him. throughout that day for that characteristic. Psalm 150 includes 13 commands to Praise Him in the six verses. And since He commands we know that He will enable us, me and you to do so. He gives not only the desire, but the power,  “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.”-{Phil 2:13 nlt}

The word, “LORD’ is mentioned throughout His Word, and the Psalms is packed where we are reminded that He is also the “LORD” our Shepherd, The LORD our Deliverer, the LORD our “REFUGE.” If you want a good study, as you work through reading the PSALMS look for the word “LORD” and see what characteristic or action He is revealed as and pause and Praise Him and add to your arsenal of things to continually Praise Him for, He is worthy of praise, He is greatly to be praised and as long as we breath we are to praise Him!

Take the above 8 attributes and Praise Him for each one in your praying, such as

“LORD I Praise You that You are Self Existent, Creator, Provider, promise Keeper, Exalted, Sovereign, Unchanging, God….” …my Shepherd I shall not want!
