Encourage One Another
Do you know what day it is? Well, it’s a trick question but it’s called… “Today.” Hebrews 3 verse 13 says “Encourage one another day after day, while it’s called today.” God’s will for the follower of Jesus Christ is that, while it’s called today, encourage one another.
To Encourage… the root meaning had to do with “coming along side to give help.” The scripture says: “day after day, while it’s called today, encourage one another.”
Hebrews 10:24 says… “Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good needs. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”
God’s will for you today is to come alongside others to give them help and encourage them.
Encourage them with…
1. Your words
2. Your gifts
3. Your works
4. By identifying with them
There is nowhere in scripture where we are ever commanded to “discourage” one another although it often seems that many of us are (so-called) “blessed” with “the gift of discouragement” and complaining. We seem to be able to find fault with everyone and everything but God does not desire us to discourage but to encourage.
Romans 15:4 says that through perseverance and the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. One way we can encourage others and inspire them to hope is through using the word of God. Romans 15:5 says that encouragement and perseverance come from God.
You know, one reason we gather together as Christians is to stimulate one another to love and good deeds and to encourage one another. When you fail to show up because you are too tired or too lazy or you’re preoccupied with something else, it’s a lack of love for God and the people of God. Also, when you get there, do not only participate in singing and listening to the word that you may apply it but find someone to encourage.
Jesus said that it’s more blessed to give than to receive. As you give yourself in encouraging others, do you know what often happens? You are encouraged as you give encouragement to others.
Well, what day is it today? Well it’s called “today.” So what’s God’s will for you when you don’t know what else to do? It’s to encourage one another.
Find someone “TODAY, to come alongside, give help, and encourage them.
