THE BLOOD OF CHRIST;
ACTIVE, POWERFUL, RELEVANT…
The blood speaks of HIS LIFE GIVEN UP so that we experience newness of life such as…
PEACE WITH GOD
“and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made PEACE through THE BLOOD OF HIS CROSS; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. “-{ Col 1:20}
“(apokatallasso from apó = from = state to be left behind which conveys idea of complete reconciliation when combined with + katallasso = reconcile). It is intensive, meaning to reconcile fully. It is the exchanging hostility for friendship. It means total, complete and the full restoration of the relationship that had been disturbed of peace. This is wonderful news, hope for the helpless, ungodly sinner. Reconciliation restores a relationship that has been disturbed and the sinner is changed from one of enmity to one of friendship with God through the blood of Jesus Christ.
REDEMPTION, FORGIVENESS;
” In Him we have redemption THROUGH HIS BLOOD, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace “- {Eph 1:7}
Redemption comes from a word meaning- to loosen what is bound, lose any person tied or fastened. Ransom , the price paid for a slave who is then set free.To release someone from someone else’s power. To Buy Back or to deliver someone from a situation which they are powerless to free themselves from or the penalty was so costly, expensive that they could never hope to be able to pay the ransom price to be freed! The idea of Redemption is deliverance or release by payment of a ransom.
“a redemption not from the power and pollution of sin, but from its guilt, its condemnation, its penalty, as made plain by the defining clause which follows, identifying it with the forgiveness of sins.” -{Expositers Greek Testament}.
“Forgiveness {aphesis} literally means,”sending away or putting apart.” The root meaning of forgiveness, “is to put away an offense.” The idea is of one of letting go of sin. Trespasses {paraptoma from para = aside + pipto= fall) is literally a falling aside and figuratively describes deviating from living according to God’s will as revealed in God’s Word as the way he would have for us to live. The basic idea conveys that of stumbling, of falling or of taking a false step so as to lose one’s footing. It speaks of a lapse or misdeed.
“Redemption means being freed from sin’s power so that it no longer rules over us, whereas forgiveness means God “wipes the slate clean” (the bearing away of all of our “shortcomings”) so that our sins no longer hang over us like the glistening blade of a guillotine ready to drop at any moment. Thank You Jesus!”-{Preceptaustin commentaries}
CONTINUAL CLEANSING;
“but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and THE BLOOD OF JESUS His Son CLEANSES us from all sin “-{ 1 John 1:7}
1 John 1;7 is a great source of encouragement concerning The blood of Christ. The way it is written, grammatically means, that His Blood continually cleanses us from “all,” without exception- all sin, bar none, such is it’s power. His Blood is Continually, Comprehensibly, Competently to cleanse from ALL your sins.
CLEANSE YOUR CONSCIENCE;
“how much more will THE BLOOD OF CHRIST, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, CLEANSE YOUR CONSCIENCE your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”-{Heb 9;14}
‘How much more,” speaks of the superiority of the Blood of Christ. “Offered Himself,” speaks of His voluntary, He was not forced or reluctant but willingly gave Himself us because He loved us and did not want us to die in our sins and face the eternal consequences so he died for our sin that we may not die in our sins. To “cleanse” from filth or impurity. “Dead works” are those things people try to do to gain salvation before they know Him.
”Serve” -“Latreuo” is translated “worshippers” in (Heb 9:9, 10:2, 12:28, 13:10). Figuratively means “to cherish.” The present tense speaks of a lifestyle of worship. In the NT the idea is-to render service to God, to worship, to perform sacred services or to minister to God in a spirit of worship. “THE LIVING GOD.“- Is used 28 times in the Bible. Believers are “children of the living God” {Rom 9:26}. Our bodies are the “temples of the living God” (2 Cor 6:16), We are indwelt by the “Spirit of the living God” (2 Cor 3:3). The church is “the church of the living God” (1 Ti 3:15); and for us God is preparing “the city of the living God” (Heb 12:22). We have a “LIVING HOPE’ through the “LIVING GOD,” through raising the LORD Jesus from the dead. “For you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the LIVING and Enduring WORD OF GOD.“- { 1 Peter 1;23}
ACCESS TO GOD;
“Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to ENTER the holy place by THE BLOOD OF JESUS, “-{Heb 10;19}
Two reasons to have confidence, the Blood of Jesus and Great High Priest over the Household of God.-{v21}. “Confidence” refers to freedom to speak without fear. The believers guilt is removed and they no longer need the earthly priests who went behind the veil once a year to pray for them. They have access now through the Blood of Jesus! Blood is mentioned 21 times in Hebrews.
OVERCOMING
“And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. “- {Rev 12:11}
RESCUED FROM A SINFUL LIFE;
” For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors,but with PRECIOUS BLOOD, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, THE BLOOD OF CHRIST. “-{1 Peter 1;18-19 }
The Blood shed is the evidence of The death of the LORD Jesus. What makes it ultimately “precious” is because of Whose blood it is, and what the giving up of His life now potentially means to all who repent towards God and place their lives in submission to the LORD Jesus. Precious, powerful blood! There is nothing “magical” about the blood, it is the symbol, evidence of His life giving up for sinners, that is so so precious to us and powerful!

Drawn from Immanuel’s veins;

Lose all their guilty stains. ” – William Cowper
