” But by His {GOD’S} doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, so that, just as it is written, “LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD.”- 1 Corinthians 10:30-31

THE SPIRITUAL INITIATION IN SALVATION;

  “But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus,…” see v 24,27, 28…This is the premeditated work of God. It is free from all exterior influences but Himself. By His doing you have become – God chosen people. He Initiated salvation, While we were yet sinners, lost and without Hope, God stepped in and saved us from His wrath, sin and it’s consequences. No sin could separate us from His doing so, because He is God. No force of evil could hinder because He is God. We are Believers by the Grace, kindness, mercy of God. let that be clear. There is nothing that we would have to offer Him, that He might love us, accept us, nothing. Nothing we have done or can offer or boast in- But God alone. In v 21 In faith we responded to His working… by His enabling {Eph 2:8-9} So as v 29 says that no flesh will glory in His presence.”…so that no human being might boast in the present of God.” It is a call to wonder and praise and amazement at God’s love for you! “By His doing you are in Christ Jesus”

THE EFFECTS OF YOUR 4 FOLD UNION WITH CHRIST BY GOD’S DOING…

1. -WISDOM FROM GOD;

“Who became to us wisdom from God…” – In Our union with Christ, the eyes of our understanding are opened to know Wisdom experientially. The first thing we have received is wisdom from God! We have wisdom to Know God; Wisdom to know salvation and the blessings implied; How to know His will. How to know His future Inheritance He has for us -Eph 1:17; Wise in how to ascertain, appropriate and believe His Word and Promises. Wise in your understanding of viewing life from Gods perspective…because you can understand His Word, His ways and the ability to follow Him. You can say, “CHRIST IS MY…WISDOM.”

The purpose of this wisdom ultimately? Is for God’s Glory v 31

2. – AND RIGHTEOUSNESS .

To be brought into a right relationship with God, by God! To be right and without blemish, or sin charged against us before God. To be completely without any and all condemnation. Indeed, ” there is therefore Now…No condemnation..in Christ.” -Rom 8:1.

 The righteousness of Christ being our covering and standard. We are RIGHT BEFORE GOD BASED ON THE COMPLETE WORK OF JESUS CHRIST Alone! OUR STANDING IS right before God. The Blood of His Son is acceptable for our sin and deliverance and new standing. – What is righteousness? To be Judicially right with and before God! The Judge has declared us right, based on the work of Another. Accepted completely because of Jesus Christ our righteousness. It is something He has done for us through the righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ, His work alone.

“Righteousness means that we are legally declared not only “not guilty,” but to have a positive righteousness.  It means that the righteous deeds and character of Jesus are accounted to us.  We don’t become righteous by focusing on ourselves, because Jesus became for us . . . righteousness”- Guzik.

“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”- 2 Corinthians 5:21. Because the LORD JESUS CHRIST bore your sin, past, present, future. All of your sins on the cross, and the wrath of God was poured out on Him as your Substitute, God was , is and forever is satisfied with His Son’s sin offering to Him on your behalf, you now as a result forever stand in right standing before Him and are treated no longer as an enemy but as a child of God, “…ACCEPTED in the beloved”- Eph 1:6; “…the BELOVED of God”-Rom 1:7… See also 1 John 3:1-3. There is no condemnation, for the Lord Jesus bore your condemnation upon the cross. God raised Him form the dead as a sign of His acceptance of the sacrifice offered to make you right with God!

You now stand Right before God as opposed to dead in sin. Right as opposed to wrong .In Right relationship with God as opposed to an enemy of God. Forever and irrevocably in RIGHT STANDING with God , because GOD CHOSE you to be Right with Him based solely on the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ! Your sin is now forgiven and dealt with once and for all- “In Christ.” You are pardoned and your sin is removed as far as the east is from the west it has been washed away in the Blood of the Lamb!

 You can say, “CHRIST IS MY…RIGHTEOUSNESS.”

The Purpose of this righteousness, ultimately? Is for God’s Glory! v 31

 3. – and SANCTIFICATION, { Set apart, Holy}

Righteousness is a judicial thing. God declares you right, based on the work of His Son! Sanctification is an experiential thing. God who has set you apart for Himself. He Begins to do a work IN YOU to purify you and me

It has been said, “Progressive sanctification refers to the process in our daily lives by which we are being conformed to the image of Christ. It is the process of becoming what we are in Christ. This involves the putting off of the old habits of lying, stealing, backbiting, etc., and putting on the Christ-like qualities of honesty, mercy, and love See Col 3:1-10.” It is becoming more and more like Christ…being conformed in our thinking, doing….. is being changed in our practice.

Positionally we are forever right before God.We will never be more right not even in Heaven! Practically sanctification is the work of God changing us on the inside to be what we are before Him. Not so as to be accepted, for that is a done deal but to make us more like His Son . {Read Rom 8;28-29}

Some of the Means God uses in this process are;

A. – CONTEMPLATING THE LORD:

” And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”- 2 Corinthians 3:18

B. -HIS SPIRIT AND HIS WORD;

But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth“- 2 Thess 2:13

C. -GOD’S WORD works IN YOU;

” For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, AM)”which also performs its work IN YOU who believe.” – 1 Thess 2:13

SANCTIFICATION IS AN INSIDE JOB – God begins an undertaking by His Spirt and His Word to bring about new patterns of thinking- Phil 4:8…living -Phil 4:9 to be conformed by renewing our mind- Rom 12:1-

One Bible teacher and author has this to say on Sanctification –

“Another one, sanctification. That means to be set apart or holy. We’ll use the word holy. He not only declared you righteous, but He began an inside work of making you holy. You know, the moment you believed in Christ, the principle of the incorruptible seed was planted in you and as John says, “you cannot continue to commit habitual sin.” Why? Because God’s holy seed is in you. When you became a Christian, the first thing you began to see was something was going on in your life that never went on there before and that was holiness.Before you are a Christian, evil all the time. Just sin all the time. When you became a Christian, all of a sudden holiness with intermittent sin. And maturity is the decreasing frequency of those sins as you eliminate them walking in the Spirit. But you see holiness is something God has done in us isn’t it? Paul said to the Corinthians, “now are you holy.” Now are you sanctified. And so we not only are right before God and that’s a judicial thing, but we actually are made holy and that’s an experiential thing. We began to walk in the Spirit. Romans 8 says “We’re taken out of the flesh and we are in the Spirit.” – {John Mac Arthur.}

You can say, “CHRIST IS MY …SANCTIFICATION.”

The purpose of sanctification ultimately? Is for God’s glory v 3

4. – and REDEMPTION {spoke of when a slave was bought out of slavery into Freedom}

Redemption is such a powerful word. God is our Redeemer. The word spoke of someone going into the slave market of sin and purchasing out from among them a slave … and to set free from slavery! The cross- ! God’s Blood purchased us. Listen to the words of Peter to …YOU and for..You

” For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”- 1 Peter 1:18-19

“Redemption is a word from the slave trade.  The idea is that we have been purchased to permanent freedom.  We don’t find freedom by focusing on ourselves, because Jesus became for us . . . redemption!“- {Guzik.}

REDEEMED…PURCHASED…FORGIVENESS;

“In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us”- Ephesians 1:7-8

Forgiveness through the blood of Christ for all of your sins, past, present and future. “And I will forgive their wickedness,and I will never again remember their sins,”{Hebrews 8:12}. Forgiveness is a PROMISE. God does not have amnesia but has PROMISED never again to bring them up and use them against you, hold them against you, or condemn you! Totally, irrevocably, eternally released, pardoned, wiped the slate clean against you of ALL sin. Think and Praise Him for this!

Listen to Rev 1:5-6 – “…To Him who loves us {present tense } and released us from our sins by His blood— and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father—to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

RELEASED THROUGH HIS BLOOD…FOREVER LOVED- THIS IS HIS WORD FOR YOU…NOW!

REDEEMED,FORGIVEN,LOVED,ETERNALLY

You can say,”CHRIST IS MY… REDEMPTION.”

The purpose of this redemption ultimately? Is for God’s Glory- v 31

“SO THAT, just as it is written, “LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD.” v31

To “Glory”-TO BOAST …. to give the correct opinion concerning God. Who HE IS. HIS NATURE, HIS ATTRIBUTES! TO BOAST IN WHO HE IS AND WHAT HE HAS AND IS DOING!

” He who glories, let him glory in the LORD: Paul uses this reference to Jeremiah 9:23-24 to show that God did it all this way so that God would get the glory.  The path for God’s glory is Christ crucified; the evidence of God’s glory is His choice of the lowly.”- {Guzik}

 Your salvation is due to GOD!

THE 4 BENEFITS OF BEING “IN CHRIST” are His gifts to you…

WISDOM,RIGHTEOUSNESS,

SANCTIFICATION,REDEMPTION.

If we are going to boast and brag and which of us doesn’t? Then boast and brag on GOD and what He has done. “By His doing you are IN CHRIST!”

CHRIST IS ALL AND ALL;

By His doing in Christ is your Wisdom

By His Doing in Christ is your Righteousness

By His Doing in Christ is your Sanctification

By His Doing in Christ is your Redemption

The proper response? boast, boast, boast…Glory in…the…LORD who has done all of this for you!!!

GLORY IN GOD’S WORK IN YOUR SALVATION AND GLORY IN THE EFFECTS OF THE BLESSINGS HE HAS DONE FOR YOU…glory…boast in the LORD
