The Scripture refers to Two Types of God’s will. There is  what we can call, His Sovereign Will or Decreed will and His Will of Command.

His SOVEREIGN WILL  is what He has DECREED and nothing or no one can alter it.

Decreed are His PRONOUNCEMENTS...For example, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”-{ 26:39}. Jesus had His preference, but we see His priority is HIS Father’s will  and this will happen at The Cross. God has Decreed it!

“Truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever Your hand and Your PLAN had predestined to take place.” {Acts 4:27-28}. “

” This Man was handed over to you by God’s DELIBERATE PLAN and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross. “- {Acts 2:23}” -{Acts 2:23},

 Isaiah wrote, “We esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God …  It was  t THE WILL OF THE LORD, to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief” – {Isaiah 53:4,10}

So the “will of God” was that Jesus die. This was His plan, His Decree. There was no changing it, and Jesus bowed and said, “Here’s my request, but You do what is best to do.”  That’s the Sovereign will of God. God’s Decreed will. His plan being done and no one or nothing able to thwart it!

“The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever HE WILL ” (Proverbs 21:1). ” The LORD Almighty has sworn, “Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and AS I HAVE PURPOSED, SO IT WILL HAPPEN… For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?”-{Isaiah 14:24,27}

“…for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, “My counsel shall stand, and I WILL ACCOMPLISH ALL MY PURPOSE,” calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country. I have spoken, and I WILL BRING IT TO PASS; I  HAVE PURPOSED, AND I WILL DO IT.“-{Isaiah 46:9-11}.

 

“All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, But He does according to HIS WILL in the host of heaven And among the inhabitants of earth; And no one can ward off His hand Or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’ “-{ Daniel 4:35}

 

“Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; You are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from You; You are the ruler of all things. In Your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all” -{1 Chronicles 29:11-12}

” Forever, O LORD, Your Word is settled in Heaven. Your faithfulness continues throughout all generation; YOU ESTABLISHED the EARTH and IT STANDS . They STAND THIS DAY, ACCORDING to YOUR ORDINANCES, FOR ALL THINGS ARE YOUR SERVANTS.”-{Psalm 119:89-91}

Sovereign in Salvation
“He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the Kind intention OF HIS WILL, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.…He  made known to us the mystery of HIS WILL, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him …also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined accordingto HIS PURPOSE who works all things after the counsel of HIS WILL,”-{Ephesians 1;5,9,11}

He is in absolute control! His Decreed will or Sovereign will speaks of his absolute authority over all and what He purposes will come to pass!   This is meant to be very comforting to His follower! It is not a battle for the throne between Him, satan, demons or people and whoever is strongest gets to sit there and as though it can be a constant exchange of who is sitting there! God is on His Throne and in His Time all will know it. He is never overcome, can never be overthrown for He is GOD!

This is reason for us to WORSHIP HIM who sits upon His throne, not as  a mere “figure head” like some political positions in certain countries who have monarchs but who do not rule, simply represent their country. 

“Sing praises to God, sing praises; Sing praises to our King, sing praises. For GOD IS KING OF ALL THE EARTH; Sing praises with a skillful psalm. GOD REIGNS OVER THE NATIONS, God sits on His holy throne. The nobles of the nations assemble as the people of the God of Abraham, for the kings of the earth belong to God; He is greatly exalted.”
 .… “-{Psalm 46;7-9}

“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; bring an offering and come into His courts.Worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness;
tremble before him, all the earth. Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved;
    He will judge the peoples with equity.”-{Psalm 96:8-10}

” The LORD sat as King at the flood; Yes, the LORD sits as King forever.“-{Psalm 29:10}

    • “I make known the end from the beginning…” – {Isaiah 46:10}
    • “’I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?'” – {Jeremiah 32:27}
    • “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for He founded it on the seas and established it on the waters” -{ Psalm 24:1-2}
    • “’But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand'” – { 1Chronicles 29:14}

God Rules Over All

    • “The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as King forever” -{Psalm 29:10}
    • “Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from You; You are the ruler of all things. In Your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all” -{1 Chronicles 29:11-12}
    • “‘I know that You can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted'” – {Job 42:2}
    • “The LORD does whatever pleases Him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths”- {Psalm 135:6}
    • “In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of HIS WILL, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of His glory” -{ Ephesians 1:11-12} (
    • “The LORD works out everything to its proper end—even the wicked for a day of disaster” – {Proverbs 16:4}
    “For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified” – {Romans 8:29-30}.
    • “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of  Him to whom we must give account” –  {Hebrews 4:13}

“For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”-{Phil 2:9-11}

 

” Do you not know? Have you not heard?

It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,
And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,
Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain
And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
He it is who reduces rulers to nothing,
Who makes the judges of the earth [e]meaningless.
Scarcely have they been planted,
Scarcely have they been sown,
Scarcely has their stock taken root in the earth,
But He merely blows on them, and they wither,
And the storm carries them away like stubble.
“To whom then will you liken Me
That I would be his equal?” says the Holy One.”
