If you  who have turned to God in repentance and put your trust in the Lord Jesus, the reality is you are totally, irrevocably pardoned by God whom you have greatly offended. He has sent away all of your sin. Never again to hold against you since He held all of it against His dear Son on the Cross. His sacrifice was perfect, complete, accepted and the proof is three days later He arose from the dead. His sacrifice fully accepted! You now have a new standing with God. You stand in Grace, fully accepted, pardoned and eternally in right standing with God because of the perfect performance of the Lord Jesus.{Rom 5:1; Col 2:13,14}

1. -SLATE WIPED CLEAN- NO SIN RECORD AGAINST YOU;

“Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!”- Psalm 32:1-NLT

“Suddenly, at the moment of conversion, YOUR PAST WAS REVISITED, your record was expunged, your mistakes forgotten, your sin forgiven, your guilt removed, your record wiped clean, and your soul set free. It took a miracle to do that. “-{Annonymous}

2. -THE COST OF YOUR FORGIVENESS;

“…and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”- Heb 9:22. The Blood Of Jesus Christ cleanses from ALL unrighteousness.

Forgiveness is not cheap. It cost Jesus Christ His life!

3. -COMPLETE FORGIVENESS

“…He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross..” – Col 2:14 “And took it out of the way “- Greek, “Out of the midst;” that is, He wholly removed it. He canceled the IOU…He wiped it out….You and I owed God for our sin, and He would extract payment. But you and I were impotent spiritually bankrupt to pay and the LORD JESUS Paid your bill your I.O.U…and mine by being nailed to the cross and paying the IOU. How is it possible? In Colossians we see How it is. Verse 9 we read, “In Him,”  verse 10, “In Him” verse 11 “In Whom,” verse 12, “With Him,…” In Him, In relationship with the LORD JESUS, when you turned to God from sin and placed your-self under the authority of the Lord Jesus and received Him for who He is Lord to rule over you and Savior to save you- instantaneously at the moment of your conversion you were totally, irrevocably, eternally forgiven not of one or two or  few , or of the worst sins but of all of your sins and He has buried them in the deepest sea, removed them as far as the east is from the west, obliterated them having borne them on His body on the cross. How many of your sins are forgiven as you read this? ALL OF THEM.

4 . PAID IN FULL.

Look at the end of verse 13,”…having  forgiven you ALL trespasses”  This is in the PAST TENSE. This is a done deal. God did it in Christ upon the cross where He said “It is finished” which means “PAID IN FULL.” There is nothing left to pay, there is no partial payment for you to pay. Jesus PAID IN FULL for all the payment God rightly required for your and my sin! The mighty deed of satisfying the Holiness of God and His righteousness  was done as Jesus bore the wrath, the full wrath of God as punishment for  sin, my sin, your sin, and God was satisfied to such an extent He raised Jesus from the dead as evidence that His complete, and perfect, flawless sacrifice was accepted and now you have life “in Him,” “with Him” and because of Him you are alive to God and ALL of your sins are presently forgiven, no not one will ever be held against you, if that was so, Jesus death was not sufficient or perfect. And the resurrection testifies it was and is. How many of your sins are forgiven? “ALL” And do you know what the word “ALL” means in Greek?-“ALL,”- Isn’t that deep. This is grounds for celebrating God and His Beloved Son, Jesus the Christ who is LORD.

5. HAPPY PEOPLE

Psalm 32:1 says, “Happy is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is removed- or covered.”

Forgiveness is meant to produce happy people. The word, “Happy,”  refers to a state of spiritual Contentment, Because of Jesus Christ. The word comes from a word meaning,”straight,or right,” Happy and in the state of contentment is the one who is in a right relationship with God, because they have been extended  God’s gift of forgiveness!

In v 1-2 David mentions 4 Different types of our offenses against God, namely,

  • “v 1- Transgressions – This word means “to step over a boundary; or to cross a line.”  It speaks of open rebellion against the clear commands of the Lord. It pictures sin as Defiance.

  • v. 1  Sin – This word carries the idea of “missing the mark.”  It speaks of a bent or crooked arrow that cannot fly straight.  It pictures sin as a Defect.

  • v. 2  Iniquity – This word means “bent or crooked”.  It brings to mind something that is warped or distorted. This word refers to our very nature, which is warped and distorted and bent toward doing evil.  It pictures sin as Distortion.

  • v. 2  Guile – This word means “deceitful.”  It refers to that which is dishonest and deceptive.  It pictures sin as Deception.” David tells us that while all of these terrible aspects of sin are a part of our lives, they can be taken care of.  And, getting them dealt with before the Lord is the key to spiritual contentment.

Notice what he says about each one of our spiritual problems.

  • v. 1  Transgressions can be forgiven – This word means to lift up and bear away.  Our defiance can be removed!

  • v. 1  Sin can be covered – This word means “to conceal, to put out of sight.  Our defect can be covered!

  • v. 2  Iniquity may not be imputed – This phrase refers to a debt that is not reckoned.”  Our spiritual distortion and bankruptcy will not be held over our heads.

  • v. 2  Our heart can be free from guile – Our hearts can be free from all spiritual deception and we can be open and honest before the Lord.”

True spiritual contentment is defined as a heart that is clean, forgiven and honest before the Lord.  David had experienced the depths of sin and the heights of the grace of God.  He is telling us that spiritual contentment is found in spiritual cleansing. If we could ever grasp that truth it would change our perspective on happiness and contentment in life.  If we could learn to accept the fact that we have been cleansed and forgiven by God; that our spiritual bankruptcy has been dealt with; and that God has washed away every stain; I think we might be able to achieve genuine contentment and peace of heart! “-{ Alan Carr Expository Sermons.}

These 4 can be taken care of…And are reason for a “Forgiven”person to be content, happy because of God’s provision for her or his sin!

How Much of Your Sin Against You Is Forgiven? ALL! Not one sin held against you. Sure, you may choose as I often have to wallow in the shame and guilt of my sin, but what an affront to the work of God on our behalf. Does this mean we have a light attitude towards sin? God forbid but where sin abounded Grace- favor, super abounded. How much sin do you have? If you were omniscient- all knowing – though you are not, and could pile all of the sins of omission- things you should have done and commission- things you did whether by thought word, deed and as high as that putrefaction and offense was against GOD. God is greater, His Son’s Blood more powerful and precious to wipe all of your sins away, forever and exonerate you because of Him. Happy is the person in whom the Lord does not hold their sins against them. “Oh how wonderful, oh how marvelous is my Savior’s love to me.”

It was a famous preacher near the end of his life while losing his memory said, “two things I remember I am a great sinner and He is a great Savior!” WHAT A SAVIOR to bear all my sin, shame and declares there is therefore NOW no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus- {Rom 8:1}

6.GOD’S UNCHANGEABLE VERDICT- ABOUT YOUR SINS?

“…And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.”- {Hebrews 8:12}

WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO BELIEVE AND LIVE A LIE?

Since God has forgiven your sins and has PROMISED NEVER , EVER TO HOLD THEM AGAINST YOU, to USE TO MANIPULATE, {AS we often do to ourselves or to others!} if He takes care of your SIN and FORGIVES you and DOES not HOLD RECORDS of your sin or GUILT over YOU- why do you hold your sin over yourself and live in guilt? Why do you live in condemnation? There is NO RECORD in Heaven of sin against you- no not one! Jesus bore them all- not a few, not some, not even many but all your sin and mine, past , present and future. His salvation work is complete, perfect, eternal and is reason to bow low before Him in adoration and exalting of Him.

” IN CHRIST,” -YOU ARE TOTALLY, IRREVOCABLY, COMPLETELY, ETERNALLY FORGIVEN!
