“This I recall to my mind,
Therefore I have hope.
The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,
For His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I have hope in Him.” -{Lamentations 3:21-24}.

The word “faithfulness”  in Lamentations 3:22, comes from a root meaning “be permanent, secure, and reliable.”

Jeremiah in times of great suffering, sorrow and devastation finds hope in the midst as he considers the LORD. He chooses to THINK on Him and writes, “This I recall to mind and therefore I have Hope.” What did He recall that caused him to have hope? His Love, Compassion, faithfulness and his relationship with Him who was his Portion.

His Love never fails because… He is Faithful. His love is permanent. It cannot be lost, wrestled from Him, or taken back by Him for HE has chosen to set His love upon His people,and it is permanent, irrevocable and freely bestowed by Him who loves us. It does not shield us from suffering but in the suffering we can know Him, trust Him and have hope in Him, because His love is permanent, secure and reliable. He can be trusted…and therefore is our source of Hope.

His Compassion never fails because… He is Faithful. His love is permanent. His mercies are “new” every morning. The word, “new,” means “brand new,” something that is there that was not there before. He does not recycle, restore, use from yesterday. For yesterday’s “mercies,” are just that “yesterday’s,” past, and today needs “new mercies!” His faithfulness is permanent, secure, reliable. You can count on Him! There is no inconsistency with Him. It is who He is. Faithful, reliable to Keep His Word, He has the power to do so and the love to execute each and every promise! Hope founded on love, that is reliable, consistent, permanent, and no need to doubt Him. As He was, so He is and forever will be – Faithful, permanent, secure, reliable!…He can be trusted…and therefore is our source of Hope.

1.His Faithfulness is Personally Known;

Jacob knew of His Faithfulness; “I am unworthy of all the lovingkindness and of all the faithfulness which You have shown to Your servant, for with my staff only I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two companies.”-{Genesis 32:10}.

2. His Faithfulness is On Display In His Work.

The Psalmist knew this; “For the Word of the Lord is upright, And all His work is done in faithfulness.”-{Psalm 33:4}.

3. His Faithfulness Is A Call To Worship Him.

 Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name; For You have worked wonders, Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness. “-{Isaiah 25:1}.

4. His Faithfulness Is Everlasting.

” For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting
And His faithfulness to all generations.“-{Psalm 100:5}

5.Feed on His Faithfulness

“Trust in the Lord, and do good. Dwell in the land and feed on His faithfulness.”-{Psalm 37;3}.

6. Faithful in His calling of you

He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.”-{1 Thess 5;24}.

7. Faithful To Provide You The Way Of Escape So You Need Not Sin When Tempted;

“No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. “-{1 Cor 10:13}.

8. He is Forever Faithful.

“If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.”-{2 Tim 2:13}.

“God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”-{1 Cor 1:9}.

9. Faithful To Forgive.

” If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”-[1 John 1:9}.

10.  His Faithfulness An Appeal In Prayer.

“Hear my prayer, O LORD; give ear to my pleas for mercy! In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!”-{Psalm 143:1}

11. Jesus Christ Is Faithful And True.

And we read of the LORD Jesus, “And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war “-{Rev 19:11}.

God is Faithful. His Work is done in Faithfulness, Jacob, The Psalmist, Paul testified of it, The LORD Jesus is the FAITHFUL One! And in Lamentations 3, Jeremiah testified and said,

“But this I call to mind and therefore I have hope… The LORD is…Faithful!”-{Lamentations 3:22}

His Hope,”confident expectation” in the LORD,  amidst sorrow, suffering was found as he recalled, meditated upon the character of the LORD and that He is FAITHFUL, and that faithfulness is permanent, secure, reliable, and  this recalling to his mind caused Hope to spring up in his heart! This “confident expectation,” is in the LORD. He remembered His Faithfulness, and as He had been He would be, forever faithful, no matter the sorrows, difficulties. Despondency looks at the difficulties and sees them as insurmountable. Hope looks to God and sees Him as… Faithful, He can be trusted, and He will fulfill All Of His Promises, all of the time. For He is Faithful to bring about a hope that brings about a future good! He fulfills all of His promises. He can be trusted…and therefore is our source of Hope

Your mind has to go  somewhere in the tough times… and we have to “renew” it Paul wrote in Romans 12:2… and we do this as we “delight in the Law of the LORD and meditate on it, day and night.”-{Psalm 1:2}. He found his delight, pleasure, in the LORD’S Word and from that sprang forth his meditation in it. When? “Day and night” it was constant. He was constantly coming back to His Word. Why? Because of the delight, joy he had in the God whose Word it was! We think about who or what we find joy, delight, pleasure in.  And so we must hide His Word in our hearts, apply His Word to our lives. One way we can do this is to memorize Lamentations 3:22 or one of the other verses mentioned above on the theme of His Faithfulness.

WE CAN USE His Faithfulness as “Fuel” for our praise to Him, and thanksgiving for it.

WE CAN USE His Faithfulness as a means to instill “hope,” within us and others as

WE RECOUNT His Faithfulness in the Scriptures and His dealings of Faithfulness to us in our own lives!

WE CAN USE His Faithfulness as”Fuel” To Tell others of as The Psalmist who did, ” I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of Your faithfulness and Your saving help. I do not conceal Your love and Your faithfulness from the great assembly “-{Psalm 40:10}

To say that The LORD is “Faithful,” is to say His faithfulness is Permanent. His Faithfulness is Secure, His Faithfulness is Reliable! Praise Him. trust Him. Set your thinking on this attribute of as Jeremiah recalled His faithfulness to his mind he had… Hope and so will you too. Why? Because He is Faithful!

“But this I recall to mind and therefore I have hope… The LORD is…Faithful!”-{Lamentations 3:22}.
