” In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the [a]saints according to the will of God. ” – {Rom 8:26-27}
Because We don’t always see life as God sees it from His perspective, our prayers are not in alignment with His will!
And as a result at times, “… we do not know how to pray as we should…,” -{v 26}
We are at a loss, or we do not pray in harmony with His will but in accordance to our own desires, and miss the target of His glory in the matter. We are not alone, Moses -{Deut 3:23-29}, Abraham-{Gen 17:15-22}, Jeremiah-{Jer 14:9-12}, David,-{2 Sam 12:16-23}, Paul-{2 Cor 12;7-10} did likewise!
Some see this as a great failure, rather than a great comfort, that the Holy Spirit seeing us in our “weakness,” and in our need of “Help,” because,”.. we don’t know what or how to pray,” comes alongside to our aid, to our rescue and intercedes for us. How wonderful is that!
At times we are at a loss to know what to pray in a given situation, because we do not have complete knowledge, we are limited, finite minds, neither knowing what God is doing or wants to do.
Just as the above people mentioned from Scripture in their particular situations, did not know or pray “the will of God,” as revealed when God chose to do something else when they prayed for a particular situation! We too at times do not know what specifically God is doing or wants to do in a given situation nor do we have the ability of seeing into the future and knowing it… “But God…” supplies His Holy Spirit to come alongside and aid us and “Helps” us, the word speaks of “rescue.”
How does He do this?
“… the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us … because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”-{Rom 8:26-27}
The Holy Spirit within us intercedes for us according to “the will of God,” and takes as it were our prayers and “straightens” them out and presents them to the Father according to “the will of God.” This portion of Romans 8 is meant to produce hope, the certainty in the midst of suffering that God has undertaken for us and one way is imparting the Holy Spirit to us to HELP us in our WEAKNESS. And note Paul says “OUR Weakness” for he himself too knew of his own limitation, frailties and identifies and is need of the SPIRIT OF GOD to help and intercede for him as well as all believers.
Thank God, when you don’t know what to pray for in specifics where the Word of God does not make something clear… the Holy Spirit is praying for you… now, that is comforting… encouraging, and is for you today and everyday as you are Heading Home to the Father’s House. He is always praying for you, in your weakness…Always…
You have the Helper,The Holy Spirit -{John 16:26} residing within you interceding for you according to the will of God for you! God undertakes for you at all times.
And the way it is grammatically written in our weakness, the Holy Spirit is CONTINUALLY Praying for us… for me… for… YOU… now that is Good news!
He is greater than our weakness, ignorance, frailties, He is for us and His help is shown to us in Romans 8:26-27…”…the Spirit also helps our weakness; FOR WE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PRAY AS WE SHOULD, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”
When you don’t get the answer you want, or don’t know what or how to pray….be assured you will get the Answer He wants!
The Holy Spirit…Intercedes for us…
- In Our Weakness.- “…Helps Our Weakness”
- In Our Ignorance, -“For we do not know how to Pray as we should,”
- According to the Will of God. – Intercedes for us… “According To The Will Of God!”-
YOUR Weakness does not nullify the Spirit of God working on your behalf!
