“No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man;” and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”– {1 Cor 10:13}

  1. KNOW- IT’S NOT UNIQUE TO YOU –No temptation has overtaken you but Such as is COMMON to man.”- The temptation can be to say, “no one understands, no one else knows what I am going through, no one has had it as hard as me.” Not so, Paul says,it is“common to man.” There is someone, somewhere, who has or is tempted in the same areas you are. So realize,IT IS NOT UNIQUE TO YOU. You’re not alone in this! You are not the only one who has ever faced this before or will face it. It is not something new, exclusive to you alone!  It may be something new you are facing, but it is not a new temptation, you are not alone. Others also have and are going through and will go through the same temptation!

        2 .KNOW – GOD IS FAITHFUL– “…and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able,…” In each and every temptation, we can have confidence in the character of God,”God is faithful who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can endure..”*** This is so, so important. Sometimes people say “God won’t put on you more than you can bear.” He does! He takes you way beyond your own resources to depend on Him. Paul wrote,  “For we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life;indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust{Rely} in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;  who delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us, He on whom we have set our hope.”  Another example  is Paul’s “Thorn.”-{2 Cor 12:8-10} .

What this verse is teaching is that God will not have you in a place where the only way out is to SIN AGAINST HIM! God will not do that. GOD IS RELIABLE.   He will not allow us to be tempted  beyond the ability NOT TO BE ABLE TO WITHSTAND SIN AGAINST HIM.

      3.–KNOW- GOD PROVIDES THE WAY OF ESCAPE PROVISION – “…and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also…”  Note the word “The.” It is Specific not general. It is Specific! “The Temptation and so is The Way of escape.”  The phrase THE WAY,.. there is ONLY ONE WAY… the way of escape is THROUGH…Whether a trial, to Build us…or a solicitation to evil to trip us…the way in every Temptation is the same THROUGHGod will ENABLE us to go THROUGH it and not sin against Him in the testing…As He enables us to endure it.

The word  “Escape”-{Ekbasis.}, means “a way out of a defile, a mountain pass.”

The idea is  that of an army apparently trapped and surrounded… and then suddenly seeing a way to escape route to safety… No man needs to fall into any temptation , for with the temptation there is the way out, and the way out is not the way of surrender and retreat, but the way of conquest in the power and grace of GOD.”– {Barclay}….or trapped in a rugged country, which manages to escape through a mountain pass.  “With the temptation there is always “The” way of escape. The word is vivid (ekbasis, Greek #1545). It means a way out of a defile, a mountain pass. The idea is of an army apparently surrounded and then suddenly seeing an escape route to safety. No man need fall to any temptation, for with the temptation there is the way out, and the way out is not the way of surrender nor of retreat, but the way of conquest in the power of the grace of God.” {Annoymous}

God is not a spectator in times of testing but actively participating and empowering and enabling  us to chose His Way of escape- Phil 2:12-13; 1 Pet 1:3-4, God is Faithful in the time of temptation to show the way of escape from sinning against Him and others. We can resist in his Power- {Eph 6:10}

 We escape the temptation by honoring and obeying God in the test.

 TO BEAR IT.”-  “to bear up under it,”  or “against it.” NOT THAT – HE WILL TAKE AWAY- BUT HAS “THE” WAY FOR YOU, to endure so not to sin against Him in the temptation and “The way of escape!”

How do we endure?

  1. Pray – Mark 14:38- keep watch that you may not come into temptation
  2. Trust His Word- 1 Cor 10:13
  3. Look away to Jesus- Heb 12:3-4
  4.  KNOW- GOD’S THREE PROVISIONS IN TIMES OF TEMPTATION- AND APPLY THEM!
